About Teresa Brown

As a therapist, Ms. Brown is committed to helping children, adolescents, and their families in their journey of hope and healing. It is her belief that every child and family deserves treatment solutions designed to meet their unique needs. She provides a safe and nurturing environment, allowing children to use play to provide the healing they need to have healthy relationships now and in the future. Her training has prepared her to work with infants through adolescents.

Teresa has always been drawn to work with children and adolescents. She pursued a career in public education to follow her passion to help all children, especially those that struggle in the traditional classroom. Her passion to help every child believe they are precious and can achieve anything, leads her to follow her heart and work with students in Special Education.

Supporting children and their families through the grief process is a special passion for Teresa. As a Survivor of Suicide in her own family, she has a passion to support families suffering through this difficult area of grief. The stigma and guilt associated with this type of grief can make it especially complicated for families to work through.

Teresa believes it is an honor and privilege to work with parents and families at a critical time in their lives. Through a collaborative approach there is hope for your child and family to heal.

Play Therapy provides children with an opportunity to work through issues that are disrupting their developmental process. Addressing issues early that are distressing for a child and their family can often prevent them from becoming more problematic and complex in the future. Anxiety, depression, divorce, adjustment, grief, academic stress and trauma are a few of the issues that can benefit from the process of playing through a child’s issues.

Many of the issues parents are concerned about for their children at home and in school can benefit from the therapeutic modalities in which Teresa has pursued additional training. She is a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC), she has completed the further education and training required for these certifications. This includes 150 educational hours and 500 hours of supervision by a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. Additional training includes: Theraplay®, Play Therapy, Sandtray, EMDR, and TBRI with a focus on attachment issues, depression and anxiety. Teresa’s training in play therapy has been through University of Houston-Victoria, American Play Therapy Association, and Texas Association of Play Therapy. Teresa continues to seek training in research-based methods of therapy to benefit families.

Fifteen years of experience in the public school system as a special education educator and school counselor provides an insight into academic issues. Teresa has certification as a National Certified School Counselor, a Texas Certified School Counselor, and a Texas Certified Special Education Educator. Her experience offers knowledge and guidance for families as they navigate the school system and administration. Teresa is proficient assisting with the process required for an educational 504, IDEA, and the implementation of behavior plans.  Consultation is available to assist parents and families working through this process.
